SNDogs stands for “Saving Needy Dogs” and that pretty much sums up what we do! We are a registered charity based in Swindon and we care for and find loving homes for dogs in need.
We have different teams of volunteers based on the varying needs of the charity. This includes foster carers, dog walkers, event organisers and fundraisers, not to mention all of the lovely people who monitor our email address to make sure all of your enquiries are responded to in a timely manner.
As we are made up of volunteers (nobody takes a wage), we rely on the kind donations of members of the public and businesses to continue our work. We also take part in many local events throughout the year, as well as hosting our own such as jumble sales and craft fayres.
About our dogs
We don’t use cages or kennels; all of our dogs stay with foster carers in their homes. They become a temporary but much loved member of the family until they are adopted.
This has many benefits for the dogs, especially those that come from troubled backgrounds. They learn what it’s like to become part of a family, how to behave inside, how to interact with other dogs, how to meet new people, toilet training and many more important social and behavioural skills that they wouldn’t learn if they were in kennels.
All dogs coming in to our care are fully assessed, vaccinated, neutered, de-flead and microchipped.
Many dogs come into the pound and the council struggles to find the owners. This can happen due to a number of reasons, but the most common are when the dog is not microchipped, or when the information on a chip is out of date (e.g. owner has changed phone numbers or address). SNDogs helps to raise awareness of these dogs and assists with the dog’s care until they can be reunited, sent off to a rescue space or rehomed.
Similarly, if we hear of a dog that needs rehoming due to the owner’s circumstances changing, we can help with rehoming the dog. If you are in this situation, visit the “Need our help?” page to find out what to do.
SNDogs has rehomed many dogs over the years. Here are just a few of them:
Rehoming dogs from overseas
We also take in rescue/pound dogs from countries such as Spain and Romania and find them homes here in the UK. There are hundreds of dogs in pounds overseas that get overlooked time and time again. Some dogs spend their whole lives in kennels. Despite this, they often have calm, loving temperaments and quickly find their “forever home” once they are in our care.
The dogs below have all been successfully rehomed after travelling to SNDogs from abroad:
